Aalto University in Espoo, Finland has completed the installation of a Planar Venue Pro VX Series LED wall at the Saastamoinen Foundation Stage, located within its new 5,000 square metre Marsio media facility.
The Marsio building opened in autumn 2024 and houses multiple studios and spaces for various applications. The Saastamoinen Foundation Stage serves primarily as a venue for open public university events.
The installation, which formed part of a comprehensive audiovisual technology project, commenced in early 2022 with pre-planning phases, followed by public tendering in spring 2023. Following budget adjustments, Leyard entered the project in autumn 2023 with a proof-of-concept test. The LED wall installation, carried out by integrator Electro Waves Oy, began at the end of May 2024 and was completed in mid-June 2024. The overall AV technical project reached completion in spring 2025.
The installation features a 16x9 configuration of Planar Venue Pro VX Series 1.9mm pixel pitch displays, creating a 4K video wall measuring 6m wide x 4.5m high.
The Saastamoinen Foundation Stage provides 285 square metres of open, flat-floor event space equipped with state-of-the-art event technology. Beyond the LED wall, the facility features high-quality stage lighting adaptable to different lighting conditions, distributed speakers for excellent sound level control throughout the space, and five high-quality robotic cameras that provide varied angles for live streaming.
“The Leyard LED screen was cost effective and is still of good quality. As an event screen mainly for presentations and similar uses, it has been a good choice to deliver information to live audiences and for university multi-camera streams.”

Studio Manager, Aalto Studios
The space can be easily transformed into a black box configuration using movable black curtains, which can also be positioned in front of doors when required. As its name suggests, the venue is equipped with a large stage platform, providing a high-quality setting for event experiences for both live and remote audiences.
Electro Waves Oy, with whom Aalto University has an established a working relationship, served as the integrator for the project. The LED wall currently serves university audiences for presentations, informational displays, and live streaming applications, while the facility continues to monitor the system's performance as part of ongoing operational procedures.
